This is a quick site tour of Pukara with pictures taken over the last 10 years of fieldwork. At its greatest extent during the Late Formative, ancient Pukara covered approximately 1.5 km2 and included areas we have defined as the Central District ("downtown") and the Periphery (residential and production areas). There have been a number of archaeological projects at the site over the last 70 years, including a 6-month excavation by Alfred Kidder II of the Peabody Museum at Harvard (1939) and a multi-year excavation and restoration project by Plan Copesco (mid-1970s to early 1980s). Since 2000, our team has been active at Pukara with a variety of field and laboratory projects: geophysical survey (2000), excavations (2001, 2009 & 2010), and a mobile GIS survey (2006).
